Cyborg Body Mod Guidelines

All mods should take place in as sterile an environment as possible. The room should be cleaned with an industrial-grade detergent and then disinfectant. Care should be taken to sterilize any surface that is used for the mod, before before and after.

All tools should be sterile. Either as a sealed, single use item or a properly sterilized item. Sterlization would include cleaning with an industrial-grade detergent and/or run through an ultrasonic cleaner, drying and autoclaving in sterilization pouches with color-changing indicator strips. For proper sterilization use a Class B or medical-grade steam sterilizer which uses high pressure and temperatures over 250°F (121°C) to kill all bacteria, viruses, and spores.

Anyone performing a body mod should ensure their space and tools are ready. They should not be under the influence of any recreational substances.

The modder should explain the procedure in clear language and obtain verbal consent that the person getting the mod understands:

* what the mod does * what are the risks of having the mod * what technique will be used and if it is a new technique * what aftercare is required * what to look for if the mod is being rejected

If it strongly encouraged to provide written aftercare instructions.

The modder should ask the person getting the procedure

* if they have any medical conditions that would a problem * if they have had any reactions to piercings or body mods in the past * if they are under the influence – and refuse to continue if there are * to explain what mod they are getting and what aftercare they will be doing * if they have any concerns about the mod

The body modder should lay down a sterilize field (a blue sterile drape most commonly). The body modder should have all required and expected safety gear on and sterilized tools ready.

After the procedure, all used items should appropriately be disposed of or cleaned and sterilized. The working surfaced must be steralized.
